We provide regular dental health checks for all our patients. We thoroughly and gently examine your jaws, gums and teeth including a comprehensive oral cancer screen. Every tooth will be checked thoroughly to help us to identify any problems. It may be necessary to take x-rays using low radiation, digital radiography. The result can immediately be viewed on our screens along with intra oral photographs which allow you to fully participate in the process.

We recommend regular dental health checks. Even if you don’t experience any problems with your teeth and gums we still recommend you visit us every six months

We provide a range of preventive dentistry treatments to help keep your teeth, mouth and gums healthy. We can help you keep your teeth by preventing decay and gum disease.

What is preventive dentistry?

Preventive dentistry is the modern way of helping you keep a healthy mouth. It helps you to keep your teeth, and means you need to have less dental treatment. The two main causes of tooth loss are decay and gum disease. The better we prevent or deal with these two problems, the more chance people have of keeping their teeth for life.

Our dentists and hygienists will work with you to prevent the need for treatment and avoid fillings and extractions. We may also recommend a course of treatment to get your mouth into good condition, and advise on ongoing healthcare to help you keep it that way.

We provide a full range of restorative dentistry procedures to ensure you can smile with confidence.

What is restorative dentistry?

Restorative dentistry is the study, diagnosis and  management of diseases of the teeth. It involves rehabilitating the teeth to the functional and aesthetic requirements of the individual.

Our restorative dentistry treatments include:

Crowns

Crowns are custom made caps used to restore broken or heavily filled teeth back to their original function and appearance.

They can be made from gold, from metal and ceramic (porcelain), or from specially treated ceramics. These metal free ceramic crowns provide excellent cosmetic results, with near perfect aesthetics.

Veneers

Veneers are bespoke laboratory made thin layers of porcelain, They can improve the strength and appearance of unsightly front teeth with minimal preparation.

Bridges

Bridges are tailor made in a dental laboratory and held in place permanently by an adjacent tooth or implant. They fill unsightly gaps left by missing teeth and restore function. They are an effective alternative for patients who do not wish to wear dentures.

Tooth coloured fillings

We only use tooth coloured, mercury free, composite fillings. These have the added benefit of reinforcing weaker parts of the tooth as well as looking very natural.

Root canal treatment

We use advanced tools and techniques to remove infection from under abscessed teeth to avoid extractions. Flexible nickel-titanium instruments are used to clean and disinfect the canals of the tooth which is then sealed with a rubber obturator. It is advisable to protect a root canal treated tooth with a crown.

Dentures

Complete or partial dentures can be used to replace missing teeth and support sagging facial tissues. We can make acrylic (plastic) dentures, Cobalt Chrome (metal) framed dentures, or even Valplast (flexible) dentures, depending on our patients needs.

We offer a full range of cosmetic dentistry procedures to improve your appearance. We can straighten, lighten, reshape and repair your teeth.

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening also known as dental bleaching is a common cosmetic dental procedure. It can be a very effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface or damaging it. Usually the original shade of the tooth is whitened to a lighter colour, rather than being turned completely white. Find out more about teeth whitening procedures.

Our professional dentists in Gloucester offer expert advice on gum disease treatment. Regular professional cleaning combined with an effective home care routine will help you keep your mouth healthy.

Gums protect and support your teeth and the tissue that holds them to the bone. When your gums aren’t healthy, you risk losing those teeth and damaging your overall health.

The best way to treat gum disease is to practise good oral hygiene, although additional dental and medical treatments are sometimes necessary.

Treatment costs

The cost of your visit will depend on what treatment you have agreed with your dentist. You will be told before treatment and given a printed estimate and treatment plan before any treatment is carried out.

About your dental appointment – FAQs

A trip to the dentist can be daunting. We will do our best to make your visit as easy and straightforward as possible but you may have questions about treatments, costs and your rights as a patient.  If you don’t find the answer to your question below please get in touch.

What should I expect when I visit the dental practice?

You will initially be greeting by our welcoming reception team who will confirm your details and appointment time. If it is your fist visit we may ask you to complete a medical questionnaire. It is important that your dentist has a full medical history to ensure we can deliver the highest standard if tailored dental care.

If you would like to complete or discuss this medical history form in privacy , we would be delighted facilitate to this request.

Your dentist will discuss your specific requirements before fully examining your mouth. Often we will ask if we can take X-rays to show us more information about your teeth and mouth.

We will discuss the findings of our examination and X-rays with you fully and together we will design a tailored treatment plan that meets all of your specific needs. You will be provided with a printed plan that outlines all aspects of your treatment including the costs.

What if I am very nervous about dental treatment?

We “cater for cowards”. We are very aware that nobody enjoys coming to see the dentist. We are entirely focused on making your visit as stress free as possible for you. Appointments will progress at a pace you are comfortable with and all treatments will be explained fully, and your permission gained, before they begin.

Most patients, even those who consider themselves to be very nervous can be successfully treated with explanation, reassurance and gentle pain free treatment delivery.

For those patients who still feel that they cannot tolerate treatment we offer specialised care with intra venous sedation which will make you feel very relaxed during treatment and you will not be able to remember everything after the appointment. Sedation patients must be chaperoned home after the appointment and for the rest of the day.

I haven′t visited a dentist in ages. Will I need a lot of dental treatment?

Not necessarily. All the the treatment options and costs will be explained to you so you can help us tailor a treatment plan for you. You will know exactly what treatment has been agreed before it is started.

I am afraid of injections. What should I do?

At the practice we take very special care to deliver painless injections. This can easily be achieved by taking the time to numb the area using topical an aesthetic gel before injecting.

How much will it cost?

This depends on what treatment you have agreed with your dentist. You will be told before treatment and given a printed estimate and treatment plan before any treatment is carried out. See our basic costs

What if I can′t attend my appointment?

We ask our patients to give us 48 hours notice if an appointment cannot be attended. This gives us the opportunity to offer the slot to emergency patients in pain.

What if I forget to attend my appointment?

We send our patients complimentary reminder text messages 48 hours before their appointments. If you still forget to attend we will try to contact you to offer you an alternative appointment. In cases of repeated failures to attend we may charge a fee for the missed appointment.

When should I pay for my dental treatment

We ask that our patients pay for the treatment they have had on the day they have had it. Some treatments may need to be splint into multiple appointments, in these cases the fee will be split accordingly. In some very rare circumstances we may ask they a patient for for part of his or her treatment up front.

Can I see the hygienist without seeing a dentist?

Yes you can but we encourage patients to see their dentist for regular check ups ideally every 6 months.

Why has my dentist recommended I see the hygienist every three months?

A patients hygiene recall interval should be tailored to that patients specific needs. Some patients may require more frequent hygiene visits to help treat and control more advanced or aggressive forms of gum disease. Your dentist will recommend and agree a hygiene recall interval with you that you are comfortable with.

Why has me dentist recommended I see the hygienist for a double appointment?

For patients with more advanced or aggressive forms of gum disease we may recommend a longer appointment that allows deep gum cleaning to be carried out under local anesthesia. This may take place over a course of longer visits and will normally be followed up with regular routine hygiene and dental check up appointments to monitor the gum improvements.

It′s hard for me to get time off work. Do you offer alternative appointment times?

We offer early morning appointments from 8.30 every day, we have a late clinic on a Wednesday until 18.30 and we also offer Saturday morning appointments.

How often should I have dental check-ups?

At your dental check up we will monitor your oral hygiene, your existing dental restorations and the gum health. We also thoroughly screen your mouth to rule out any sinister soft tissue lesions, primarily oral cancer. For most patients we advise 6 monthly check ups which we feel is best practice and allows us to offer the highest standard of care. In some rare cases we may agree a 12 month recall with some patients.

Can I get a second opinion? And will I have to pay for it?

If you feel you would like a second opinion we are happy to offer you an appointment at no fee to see a different dentist at the practice. On rare occasions we may recommend you be referred to see a specialist outside the practice. We will advise you what fees you can expect when you see a specialist. .
