We are now offering teeth whitening for £150 for both arches. Teeth whitening also known as dental bleaching is a common cosmetic dental procedure. It can be a very effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface or damaging it. Usually the original shade of the tooth is whitened to a lighter colour, rather than being turned completely white.

What causes teeth discolouration?

As a person ages the adult teeth often become darker due to changes in the mineral structure of the tooth, as the enamel becomes less porous and phosphate-deficient. Teeth can become stained by bacterial pigments, foods and vegetables rich with carotenoids or xanthonoids. Certain antibacterial medications can cause teeth stains or a reduction in the quality of the enamel. Ingesting coloured liquids like coffee, tea, and red wine can discolour teeth.

What does teeth whitening involve?

Professional bleaching is the most usual method of tooth whitening. We will assess you first to see whether teeth whitening is suitable for you. We will tell you about the options you have for tooth whitening and which will be the most suitable for you. The most common type of whitening is called ‘dentist-supervised home whitening’. You will have trays made specially to fit into your mouth like gum-shields. The whitening gel is then put in the trays and you will be given a routine to follow at home.

We also offer ‘in-surgery teeth whitening’. We will protect your teeth and gums with a rubber shield and then apply the whitening product to your teeth using a specially made tray. We will let you know if you are suitable for this treatment and supervise it here at the Limes Dental Practice.
