Dr Andrew Connolly and the team at Limes Dental Practice in Gloucester

Dental implants are a long-term decision. The clinic you choose matters almost as much as the treatment itself. Two clinics can offer the same implant, yet differ a lot in planning, experience and what happens after the surgery.

This guide covers what is actually worth checking. It will help whether you choose us or another practice.

Is the dentist properly registered and trained in implants?

Start with registration. Every dentist in the UK must be on the General Dental Council register, and you can look anyone up for free on the GDC online register.

Registration alone does not tell you how much implant training someone has. It is reasonable to ask:

  • What postgraduate training do you have in implant dentistry?
  • Who will place the implant, and who will fit the final teeth?
  • How often do you carry out this type of treatment?

At Limes, treatment is led by Dr Andrew Connolly, who holds an MSc in implant dentistry. You can read more about Dr Andrew Connolly and the wider team.

How will my treatment be planned?

Good implant work is decided before any surgery. Ask how the clinic assesses your bone, gum health and bite, and what scans they use. A proper plan should explain:

  • where each implant will go and why,
  • whether you need a bone graft or sinus lift first,
  • how long each stage will take,
  • what the final teeth will look like.

If a clinic offers a firm price or a start date without examining you or looking at a scan, that is worth questioning.

Is the price clear, and what does it include?

Implant pricing can look very different from clinic to clinic because it is often built from different parts. Ask for a written plan that shows the surgery, the final crown or teeth, any bone work, and the follow-up visits.

Our fees are published. Implant surgery starts from £995 and an implant crown from £895, and you can see them on our fees page. For the full picture of what it costs to have implants fitted in Gloucester, including what affects the final figure, see our separate guide.

The cheapest quote is not always the best value. A lower price that leaves out parts of the treatment can end up costing more.

What happens if something goes wrong?

Even well-planned treatment can have complications. Ask directly:

  • Who will I see if there is a problem, and how quickly?
  • Do you repair or replace work that fails, and on what terms?
  • Are review appointments planned after treatment?

This is also a real risk with travelling for cheaper treatment. If you have implants fitted far from home, ongoing care and any repairs become much harder. A clinic in your own area can see you quickly if something feels wrong.

How important is the aftercare plan?

Implants need looking after, just like natural teeth. Gum disease around an implant can cause it to fail. A good clinic will plan regular hygiene visits and show you how to clean around the implant. It also helps to understand how long implants last and what keeps them healthy.

Do reviews and the practice itself matter?

They do, but read them with care. Look for patterns, not one-off comments. Patients often describe feeling listened to, having things explained at each stage and being comfortable. Those details say more than a star rating.

Visit the practice if you can. Do the team answer your questions patiently? Do you feel pressured? A good consultation should leave you better informed, not rushed into a decision.

What should I do next?

Book a consultation at two clinics if you can, and compare how each one explains your options. Bring your questions from this list. If you would like to see how we work, you can book an implant consultation at our Stroud Road practice, with no obligation to go ahead.
